This happens to be a receipe from my grandmom, got this one from her during my U.S visit in 2006. A very simple recipe that tastes great with rotis. I love mine with Rasam and rice. I suggest using a non-stick pan for best results. I've posted this on demand for a friend who's been wanting this up on the blog for a while now. Enjoy Pritham and let me know how it turns out :O)
Ingredients
2 Large Potatoes
1 Large Bitter Gourd ( or 3 small ones)
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp urad dhal (black gram)
1 tsp chili powder
1 tsp coriander powder
1/2 tsp turmeric
1 sprig curry leaves
4 tbsp besan (gramflour)
4 tbsp oil (I use olive/sunflower)
1/3rd cup water
Salt to taste
Coriander for garnishing
Method:
1. Cut potatoes & Bittergourd to about 1 inch in length.
2. Heat pan and add in 2 tbsps of oil.
3. Add mustard seeds, urad dhal, curry leaves and fry till it splutters.
4. Add in the potatoes first till they are half done.
5. Add in the bitter gourd and stir.
6.Now add in the turmeric, chili powder, Coriander powder and salt.
7. Allow to cook on medium for about 5 mins.
8. Now add the water and sprinkle besan (gramflour) till the potatoes and bittergourd are fully covered.
9. Now add the 4 tbsp of oil on top to float and leave to simmer on low for about 5 mins do not mix or stir.
10. Now slowly and gently mix on medium and fry until brown & crispy.
Garnish with coriander leaves and serve with roti.

Tried just now. Tastes really good. I couldnt get the bitterness at all. It was more like aloo sabji wid a very slight flavour of karela, very tasty.
